Stolen from [livejournal.com profile] chebonne:

1. Grab the nearest book.
2. Open the book to page 56.
3. Find the fifth sentence.
4. Post the text of the next seven sentences in your journal along with these instructions.
5. Don't dig for your favorite book, the cool book, or the intellectual one: pick the CLOSEST.
6. Tag five other people to do the same. Anybody gets to do it!

On 24 September this last source inexplicably failed. Tension rose at Hinges. During the late afternoon and throughout the night of 24-5 September, the recordings were phoned through, logged, and interpreted. Gold predicted that the wind would moderate and change direction slightly. Between midnight and 0200 its speed fell from 1.3-1.8 m/s to less than 1 m/s, and in places there was dead calm. The direction, initially steady from the south-west, veered one or two points towards south. All this was according to forecast, but the timing was wrong: the changes took place much earlier than expected and as zero hour, 0550, approached the prognosis got worse.

This is from The Poisonous Cloud: Chemical Warfare in the First World War, by L.F. Haber, specifically Chapter Four: The Allied Reaction. (And yes, this was the closest; it was this or A History of Chemical Warfare (Kim Coleman) and that one was on the bottom of the stack. They're chilling in front of my printer. Ugh, IQP, ugh ugh ugh.)

"a vague disclaimer is nobody's friend"

Idk. Make it about how vague our advisers are.

I'm making it a rule not to bitch about PQP/IQP on LJ because I bitch enough about it IRL. We'll see how that goes. :|

I kind of love it, though. Apparently it was Tegan Quin's MySpace picture for a while. She's on two cell phones so it leads to firey eyes? I find it entertaining.

I don't like bitching in my journal, though. It's more gratifying to do in person.

Also, I feel like using ridiculous icons right now.
