tiltingheartand: ([cm] what's it like at quan-ti-co?)
It's weird to think about, but apparently my opinions are valued highly enough that my team leader at work told me my plan for March is good, and to go ahead with it. (I forgot to mention, but as of the 14th of February I've been at this job for two years. In a couple of weeks I will have been doing heparin testing for a year. I have no idea where that time went, honestly, but -- hey. Not complaining.) To be fair, I would be doing what most of the plan concerns anyway, and I'm pretty sure nobody wants a repeat of the utter trainwreck that was February, but still.

(On the other hand, this month corporate will be shitting on us, but we will have advance warning of said shit, and none of said shit will turn out -- OOPS -- to be from the previous month instead of the current month, ~oh well~, FDA commitments aren't really important, right? Right?)

In completely inexplicable news, my dad emailed me on the first with a link to a job posting and a query as to whether or not it's something I would consider. (It's this listing, for context.) The problems with this: a) not qualified (I don't even have three years at the job I have); b) I hate mass spec; c) KANSAS; d) I already have a job. e) WHICH I LIKE.

I still haven't responded, because I can't figure out what I want to say. I told my mom about it and asked for advice and, hilariously, she started defending him a little -- which, okay, I know he tries. And I do appreciate that he's thinking about me! Just. The fuck. And that's part of why I didn't respond when I read it; I'm still kind of worried that instead of being calm and rational I will just yell via internet. (There are also some fairly cruel things I could say to him, like for instance maybe he just didn't think I was at my job anymore, since I've been there longer than he was ever at one job when I was growing up. I am definitely not going to say that, but my god is it tempting.) I might just ignore it, honestly. I can't even -- dumbfounded, seriously.

And in completely unrelated news, I am leaning more and more toward calling my new (okay, I got her in December, what of it) Kindle Millie. It popped into my head a couple weeks after I got her, since after all her predecessor was named after her husband, and all I could tell was that my new Kindle was a she. The more I think about it, though, the more I like it; she's just as powerful as her husband, after all, just in a more subdued, under-the-surface way. And the more I seriously consider it, the more I like it, in the end.
tiltingheartand: ([qi] stand back! i'm trying science!!!)
It's funny -- a lot of varied and random stuff has happened since I posted last (I got a smartphone! work decided it was going to be a giant shitface about a bunch of things! one of my uncles died!) but none of those were actually enough incentive for me to get off my ass and post. For different reasons, I guess? (In order: not too noteworthy other than I love it; I hate making this thing all work all the time and anyway I'm pretty sure nobody else cares; it was weird because he was super-sick (stage III or IV throat cancer), but only for like a month? and we were never that close and he was actually kind of a creeper the last time I saw him, although to be fair he was drunk, but it's still weird.)

And yet here is the thing that's actually getting me to post -- I think I'm going to go off dairy. Or at least lactose, with all of dairy entirely to possibly follow.

in which I ramblingly discuss my reasons/hopeful achievements )

So that happened! Or ... is happening ... Anyway, the progress so far is that I have discovered I quite dislike ice cream made from coconut milk, like the two kinds of not!milk we have in the fridge (one is soy milk and one is almond milk, but I think they're the same brand?), and am kind of in love with this not!butter we got. It's fantastic, homg.

(I am also thrilled that I stumbled across the phrase "aseptically-packaged boxes of milk" in my journeys last night, because that pinged a thing in my head that reminded me that that's actually possible, and enabled me to do what I wanted re: not!milk, which was to, instead of committing to a whole half a fucking gallon, get a tester of it, after a fashion. I think the boxes we have are eight or twelve ounces, and they're perfect.)

So if anyone has any suggestions I would super-duper appreciate them! Or warnings. Or thoughts in general, related or unrelated. Hi! :D?
tiltingheartand: ([misc] what? can't you see my halo?)
Obligatory Half-Blood Prince post.

spoilers, obviously )

Unspoilery thoughts, mostly to do with the trailers: I swear I thought that animated one was for a Carmen Sandiego movie, the one for Where The Wild Things Are made me want to cry and I have no idea why (also, holy fuck, that animation is amazing), and I want to see both Sherlock Holmes and 2012. I know the Holmes purists and the people who have taste in movies will probably go :| at that, but I have no knowledge of the Holmes thing except for the story Stephen King wrote in which (for once) Watson solved the case, and I really enjoyed Independence Day and The Day After Tomorrow (mostly because I ignore the science involved; I also, despite its MANY failings, enjoyed The Core when it first came out, and in fact went to go see it at the theater).

I no longer have any icons relevant to this fandom, so I shall use this one instead, because Rufus Wainwright will forever be Regulus Black in my head.

Anyway, my birthday was lovely; my mom and I went up to Canada and walked around the Falls for a while, and we were out there late enough we got to see them all lit up, which I had never seen before. And it was awesome. (And then I wrote an incredibly strange piece of fiction which did not go where I thought it would. At all. But whatever; I still like it.)

Tomorrow I fly back to school, ugh. My flight leaves at ass o'clock in the morning (7:10 AM) and the first train I can catch doesn't leave South Station until quarter to one in the afternoon. :|

But! I have my iPod! WHICH I HAVE NAMED, by the way. Her name is Jack and she is awesome. (Hooray.)

[22:13] [livejournal.com profile] midnight_united: If not just everyone/everyone.
[22:15] [livejournal.com profile] parcae: hahahaha.
[22:16] [livejournal.com profile] midnight_united: I mean, Pavi ships his brother and sister. Rly.
[22:16] [livejournal.com profile] midnight_united: How ridiculous can a movie get.
[22:17] [livejournal.com profile] parcae: yeeeeeeeeah.
[22:17] [livejournal.com profile] parcae: although pavi's also, uh. insane, from what i gather.
[22:18] [livejournal.com profile] midnight_united: Yeah, but, then again, all of the Largo children are a few sandwiches short of a picnic.

(Also, I just remembered, my dad sent me this text today at lunch: Is a birthday @ the Disco. I love you. Which made me smile but also made me go "wtf?" because how did he even know that? Yeah, I got nothin'.)

... so then I didn't post for like two weeks. Yeah, I don't know. I had a really shitty week, though -- the boss that hired me went on vacation for a week, so, uh. That boss I hate, the one that made me cry, who apparently is just as horrid to everyone else? Yeah, she was there every fucking day. With no buffer.

But on the bright side, she's the one on vacation this week, and the really young manager at our store was telling a few of us (it was the three of us and him, and we were chilling behind back line, because, seriously, dead) how apparently he went off about her to Junior (one of the owners) and the boss that hired me, with the end result that when she gets back from her vacation she's going to be around a lot less. Like, some days she's just going to open at other stores and never show up at ours.

I cannot overstate how much this is going to reduce my stress level at work. It's only Monday and it's already gone down.

We went to a bike place today to see if we could get water bottle cages, at which point we discovered that we don't have the screws necessary to actually mount them. So instead we, uh. Got a mini-backpack. But it'll fit, like, snacks and shit as well as two water bottles, and this way there can be ID and keys and stuff in there too.

ALSO. I am taking gym courses this year, so I have been thinking (off and on) that I needed to see if I could find a pair of gym shorts, the problem being that I hate my thighs too much to wear those ridiculous short shorts that are common as gym shorts for women, but I also am not fond of my thighs rubbing while I'm getting sweaty, so basketball shorts are out. (Although they were quite handy when I didn't have any this year, thank you [livejournal.com profile] midnight_united.)

BUT. We were wandering around and stumbled on some shorts that looked really promising. And then they sucked. But then I found this awesome pair of plaid shorts that keep my thighs from touching, go down to my knees, and don't even cling weirdly. It's really exciting, like, I know it sounds dumb and frivolous, but it's a big thing for me.

I found The Usual Suspects on TV last night. It started at eleven PM.

No serious fuckups because of me today at work! Granted, we got a new coffee machine, so at one point I was making au jus -- it was the first one of the day, actually, I think, and I was just making it because I was closest to the machine -- and the water kept splatting into the sauce (and onto me) and then at one point actually splatted directly on me, so that was fun, but otherwise it was pretty awesome. Next week I get to learn how to open, and also apparently I'm going to get a headset so I can learn drive-thru, which, ahahahahaha what.

Also the dude who looks like Trace Cyrus actually spoke today at all ever, which was interesting. (It was mostly "dude! you have a voice!" to be honest, but my point remains.)

Then we went over to visit with my grandparents for a while because it was just barely 4, and oh, I really enjoy the fact that I'm allowed to both love them all and want to throttle the majority of them. Seriously. And here I thought there were fewer of us around, so I would have fewer violent urges. APPARENTLY I WAS WRONG.

Although on the bright side, apparently I now look so much like my cousin Jessica -- from like ten feet away, anyway -- that when her man (they're a fuckton more serious than that, but they're not anything else at the moment that I am aware of, so that'll have to do) pulled up to the house to pick up their kids and my grandma and mom and I were sitting on the porch he did a double take because he thought I was Jessica. And then later told me we ought to have pictures taken, because that's just crazy. (His words.)

But I got hot dogs, so. And a tiny child actually wanted me to pick her up, and then proceeded to hug me slash cling to me for, like. Fifteen minutes. It was so weird, and she was ridiculously warm, but at the same time oh my god adorable. My mom kept threatening to take pictures to prove that I don't burst into flames when I'm around kids, but then she remembered her phone was in the car. I think we all know who won that battle.

My mom and I went to go see I Am Legend tonight. I was incredibly excited about it; I'm still kind of torn as to whether I feel let down or not. If I pretend that it was an original movie, an original story, that I hadn't gone into the theater with an idea of how it was going to go, I am free to admit that it was amazing. As an adaptation, um. It made me want to scream. Or shoot something.

But my mom really liked it! I tend to use her as a gauge, since usually the movies we go see that are adaptations are of books that I've read and she hasn't, so. There.

(They're right, though; Will Smith was really good.)

Meme time! If you had me under your command and could make me write anything, regardless of whether or not I know the fandom or write the pairing or if anybody even writes fic in that fandom and no matter how crack-addled it might be, what would you love to see me write? I am cuuuuurious.

I've always liked this meme, so:

[Poll #1094283]

Seriously, anything at all. Then in a few days I'll answer all the questions anonymously in a different post.

I'm surprisingly awake, considering the fact that all the sleep I got last night was either in a car or on a train. I got ... four hours, maybe? Something like that. Two each. I kept waking up in the car, though, cos I was dumb enough to take my hoodie off and so every time my dad opened the window up I would freeze.

But on the bright side, I finally got IHOP, so that's pretty much awesome. And I think I made my dad into a Cobra Starship fan, so.

Okay, now it's time for me to go find something to eat. *flees*
